Good morning, my friend,

September is here, which means thoughts of turning leaves, cool breezes with a hint of chill, and the promise of all things pumpkin. I hope you take a moment to go outside and enjoy the beauty of the seasons every day.

While you’re reflecting on the beauty of nature, make your life a little more beautiful by subscribing to this newsletter for more reviews and insights every Monday.

When we take stock of what matters to us in the world of comics, I’m reminded of how we come to think of comic characters as real people with thoughts, feelings, and lives of their own. Therefore, I’m reminded of how easily those characters’ lives can be turned upside down when writers don’t feel the same level of responsibility to caretake the identity of those characters.

Today’s Op-Ed is a cautionary tale about a change that almost happened and why it’s important for editors to stay on their toes. Warning: Names are named.

[Op-Ed] Protect Your Darlings

Do you have a story about a comic character that got changed on a whim? How did it make you feel as a fan?

Share your stories in the Comments, and we’ll feature them in the next newsletter.

If you’re a DC fan as I am, last week was Rough with a capital ‘R’. With the end of Knight Terrors leaping directly in Gotham War, the DC creatives have not been kind.

Yours truly had a chance to talk a little bit about Knight Terrors and more about the prelude to Gotham War in the previous week’s Comics Aficinados livestream.

Give it a watch!

Last but not least, we’ve got our feeds straightened out, so now you can listen to this newsletter on your favorite podcast platform. If you don’t see your preferred service listed below, let us know, and we’ll add it.
