Good morning, my friend,
Instead of the typical essay on one topic, today I’ve got a selection of smaller topics talking about events from the past week and happenings coming up in the (near?) future. Enjoy!
Superman IS Relevant
I’m a periodic guest on the Comic Aficionados weekly roundtable discussing the week’s developments in comics and the Comics Industry. Well, I participated in yesterday’s stream and the topic of Zack Snyder’s version of Superman came up.
As the kids these days say, I was “triggered” over Snyder’s interpretation of the character and how he got one element wrong that effectively tainted everything that came after. Hint: It has nothing to do with superpowers.
Watch the whole stream for a collection of folks who are passionate about comics, but if you want to skip to my mini-sermon about the Big Blue Boyscout, skip to 49:30.
If it wasn’t clear by now, I have strong feelings about the greatness of Superman. WB’s inability to bring a powerful, crowd-pleasing, universally-beloved version of the character back to screen has nothing to do with the character being outdated or irrelevant in the modern world. It has everything to do with WB putting the property in the hands of creators who don’t understand the character. A future Opinion post may be in the works specifically on this topic.
What the heck is DotD?
Last Friday, we put out a brief post about toys and collectibles with an offer to pre-order a Batman #423 McFarlane Pop! Comic Cover Figure (click on the image below if you missed it). I was surprised how much our readers positively reacted to the deal, so we’re going to try and make it a regular thing as a “Deal of the Day” (DotD).
Now, everyone has different tastes in comics and nerdy stuff, so we’re going to present a variety of selections for you to choose from. To make it easy for you to identify when a DotD arrives in your Inbox, we’ll preface the title with “DotD”.
Easy. Right? The whole point of this service is to bring you stuff you love, and of course, a portion of the sales help go towards running and expanding the site so we can keep bringing you more great reviews and content.
A little One Piece action
If you’ve been following the site (or me) for some time, you know we’re as much a fan of Manga as we are of Western comics. Sadly, not enough is said about Manga in the US, so we’re talking with other creators (YT, Blogs, etc.) about doing a regular discussion on one of the most popular Manga titles in the world, One Piece. The details aren’t set yet, but if you’re a fan of One Piece or Manga in general, keep your eyes and ears peeled right here and on all the social media channels via @ComicalOpinions for an announcement once we get it all sorted.
Whew! It’s a busy time for us, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with all the hard work put in to give you the best we’ve got in comics reviews, opinions, and more.
Don’t forget to share this email with your friends to help spread the word and keep us growing.
