Good morning, my friend,
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, it’s no secret major changes are afoot in the Comics Industry.
IDW has formally announced they’re losing the Transformers/GI Joe license. Daniel Cherry III has announced his departure from DC as General Manager. DC Comics has announced their big Spring event will kill off most of the core Justice League members (for a little while, at least). Marvel’s latest releases from their new era of X-titles are falling flat. And on and on and on.
Of course, ComicalOpinions.com is all about opinions, and yours truly was asked to chime in on these topics and several more on this week’s Comics Aficionados Livestream. You can watch it down below.
There are a few key ideas that I’ll share just with you that I didn’t say in the stream, another perk of being a subscriber to this newsletter.
The Comics Industry will undergo a major shakeup in 2022. I don’t mean that in a doomsayer kind of way. Change can be a good thing when good people do the right things for the right reasons, and I believe those people still exist in the Big 2-5. Reward and encourage good choices when you see them.
Marvel and DC Comics have allowed themselves to get stale and stagnant. While that’s not pleasant to conclude, that means small publishers and indie creators have a GOLDEN opportunity to fill the void for comics readers looking for the good stuff. Exposing the world to smaller publishers and indie creators is one of the reasons why ComicalOpinions.com was created, so it’s also an opportunity for us as well. Get excited!
When the publishers you care about stumble and fall through their own avoidable mistakes, it’s easy to get cynical. Don’t fall into that trap of spending so much time critiquing and complaining that you become jaded to an entertaining comic. That’s something I continuously have to remind myself, and I encourage you to do the same. Appreciate the fun whenever you find it.
2022 is already proving to be a wild year and it’s still only January. Thank you for sticking with us. Thank you for reading. Tell your friends, neighbors, and loved ones about us. Let’s have some fun!
