Good morning, my friend,
As of this writing, we’ve received news of a terrible event unfolding in America.
A lone gunmen attempted to assassinate a presidential candidate, losing his life and killing at least one innocent bystander in the process.
As sad as those events are, I’m equally saddened by the reaction from professionals in the Comics Industry, both well-known and not-so-well-known, claiming everything from “it was staged” to “almost got ‘im.”
I can’t help but wonder how or why people who’ve chosen to tell stories for a living have gotten to a place in their minds and hearts where murder is something to be laughed at or even encouraged.
Regardless of your political leanings or ideological views, I implore everyone who cheered anything about this event to remember that stories are where we go to learn about heroes and villains.
They teach us from an early age about right and wrong, the consequences of our actions, and the value of living a righteous, noble life.
When I look at the past several years of comic output, especially from Marvel and DC, it’s no wonder the heart is missing from nearly every issue.
As creators, we’ve forgotten what being a hero is all about. I long for the days of heroes (and villains) to return. Maybe if that spirit of heroism was still commonplace for children, we wouldn’t live in the world we witnessed this weekend.
Be good to each other. Aspire to be more than a party or tribe. Become a hero.
